The reality of credit (and debit) card fraud (and its connections to general crookery) are even further back than the book "Wise Guys" (the cornerstone of the movie "Good Fellas") which goes into the subject in general terms PayPal itself (both before and SINCE it was acquired by eBay) has, in fact, used the fraud problem as a marketing tool with merchants - especially outside the US.
I get it - and it certainly isn't EA's fault. Now, I actually get WHY Origin kicked debit cards to the curb (despite that it inconveniences me, and quite a few other folks that use debit cards - and used them in the past on Origin) - the same problem is driving the increased use of PayPal outside of North America it's called FRAUD.Ĭredit card fraud has ALWAYS been a problem however, DEBIT card fraud is, if anything, a bigger one - it affects both online purchases and in-person purchases as well (which is why I refuse to use it to beat up on EA). However, that will mean that if BPR appears on Steam, I must purchase it there (as opposed to Origin). You must either use a credit card or PayPal.įor all the "ease of use" PayPal may have outside North America, that isn't the case in North America (and especially in the US) - debit cards are a LOT easier (both to get and to use). Okay - why would I purchase a game on Steam that I already OWN on Origin?įrustration factor, actually - Origin no longer takes debit cards. The bad news is twofold: you must pay $20 if you want it (and that is even if you have the Origin version) the weird news is that your account and other info crossdecks with it (hence it being the SECOND piece of bad news) I was so NOT expecting that, as that usually is NOT the case - usually, when a game is on both Steam and Origin, everything accrues separately as if the two were separated by the Great Valve Firewall hence the weird news ALSO being bad news. Along with the upcoming launch of Burnout Paradise: Remastered (confirmed by a "coming soon" page on Origin), the original has appeared on Steam (for those that were unwilling to purchase any game that does NOT appear there).
